Home Sweet Home
Ahh, freshman year. I don’t even know where to begin. First of all, I wish someone would have told me that over-packing (especially clothes) is the number one mistake for almost every girl. For some reason packing 8 pairs of jeans, shirts for every season, and the “just in case” items you know you’ll never use seemed very necessary to bring at the time. I mean it was an honest mistake. After all, it was my first time living away from home. However, was it normal that my parents and I had to take two separate cars in order to fit all my new dorm gear to school? If I were to give advice for upcoming freshman, I would tell them to gradually bring things to school. That was definitely my biggest mistake. For example, when taking a quick visit home on certain weekends, bring back the items you may have forgotten. Trust me, it will make life (and your parents) much happier. After that’s over with, it’s then time to meet your new roommates. That could be both a good and bad thing depending on the whole situation. For me, I lived in a quad for my first three years of college. It was hard, but manageable. We became really close friends, and we actually had a lot in common. I couldn’t wait to meet them since I spoke to them several times over the summer. That’s another thing-it is vital to speak to your roommates before going to school so you can all figure out what to bring. For instance, going over who brings a TV, microwave, DVD player, and mini fridge is important so the dorm room will come together and it could look and feel a little more like home.
